Business Portraits:
The first impression counts.

Why business portraits?
A successful business portrait underlines your personality and is an important part of your personal brand. Most initial business contacts happen online and without meeting in person. This is also true for team members in perhaps globally dispersed teams. A corporate headshot or business portrait is often the first piece of information others take from you. Your business portrait gives the viewer an impression of you in a very condensed way and ‘at a glance’ that is memorable.
Take the chance to present yourself as you are and as you want to be seen. Mit einem Businessportrait, dass zu Ihnen und ihrer Rolle passt aber unbedingt authentisch ist.

Business portraits and corporate headshots

Whatever type of business photos you need, for example team photos, personal brand images, editorials or corporate headshots for social media: I will realise your wishes and will be happy to advise you on the concept.
I photograph business photos in

For many purposes, portraits are ideal in the context of the working environment. Sometimes this is not desired because a neutral background is needed. For example, because the photos must be reproducible when new employees join the company later or picture editors for publications have certain requirements. In this case, I bring a completely mobile photo studio to you. All we need is a small meeting room to set up the lighting system and the backdrop.

Use of business portraits

Company websites
Employee portraits are an integral part of every company website. A standardised layout and a reproducible image style of the photos are important. This ensures that the website remains consistent if the team changes.

Personal Brand Photos
Personal brand photos show the person in a business context and connect the brand with the person. That’s why likeable and authentic images are important for every self-employed person and their brand image.

Profile photos for social media
A business portrait or corporate headshot is an elementary component of every social media profile. The viewer can “get a picture” of you in a fraction of a second. It is therefore definitely worth investing in a professional photo.

Online reporting
Without a “scroll stopper”, your message will be lost in the flood of media. That’s why a professional photo is indispensable in online reporting, as here in Manager Magazin. It creates a clear context and draws the necessary attention to your message.

What types of business portraits are there?
And what exactly is a corporate headshot?
There are different types of business portraits, each with different purposes and styles. Here are some of the most common types of business portraits and how they are used. The possible uses and design overlap to some extent and there are different names for closely related types. The balance between “role” and “person” can also vary greatly, depending on which aspect is to be emphasised more. If you look at business portraits on LinkedIn & Co. you will notice that there are now many different interpretations of the topic in addition to the classic business portrait.
That’s why it can be useful to think about a few things before the photo shoot, for example
– What do I want to use the portraits for?
– How do I want to be perceived?
– Which facets should be emphasised?
– Is a neutral background or a location more suitable?
We will be happy to discuss these questions and other details in person before the photo session. In this way, we ensure the best result that matches your ideas. Let the following examples inspire (and not confuse) you.

Classic business portraits
This type of portrait photo shows the person in more formal clothing, although this of course also depends on the industry in question. The emphasis here is on the respective role. The classic business portrait is an ‘all-rounder’ and is often used for company websites, LinkedIn profiles, presentations or official documents.
- Neutral background
A neutral background does not distract from the person and does not provide any context to the working environment. This means that these photos can be used very flexibly. Both dark and light backgrounds (and everything in between) are used to control the mood of the image. - Background with context
The aim here is to include information about the working environment in the photo. The context can be given very subtly with a blurred background or with clearly visible elements. The latter is also a stylistic device that is often used in personal brand photos, for example.
Corporate Headshots
Corporate headshots are a special type of business portrait. The difference to a classic business portrait with a neutral background is marginal, but essential. While the ‘classic’ often extends to a half-body portrait (very rarely full-body), a headshot focusses exclusively on the face and is cropped close to the head and shoulders.
With a corporate headshot, you introduce yourself to the viewer so that they can form a picture of you. A headshot should also convey many positive emotions, such as trust, friendliness or empathy and open-mindedness.

Editorial Business Portraits
The use of this type of business portrait is the namesake here: editorials or ‘editorial portraits’ illustrate a story and are ideal for (online) magazines, “about me” pages and blogs.

Lifestyle Portraits
This type of business portrait overlaps greatly with editorials. A lifestyle portrait shows employees in their working environment performing their professional activities. The photos convey an authentic depiction of everyday working life.
Executive Business Portraits
Executive or C-level business portraits for high-ranking executives and managers emphasise authority and professionalism in particular. Because they typically have a high reach, there is a particular focus on a stylish and appealing environment.

Personal Brand Portrait
Personal brand portraits are the first choice for the self-employed and are designed to strengthen your own brand. They can be more creative and individualised to reflect the person’s personality and style in an accentuated way. The aim is to establish an emotional connection with the potential customer, create trust and convey expertise. This gives leads confidence in your expertise even before the first personal contact is made.
A perhaps special example is my portrait of a criminal defence lawyer for his website. The seriousness of the topic must of course be taken into account here and the photo must visualise competence and assertiveness. A smile would be completely out of place here.
Branding Headshots
A special form of corporate headshots intended to emphasise affiliation with a particular brand or theme. The individuality of the person depicted fades into the background, which is a major difference to the corporate headshots described above. The photos are standardised and logos or symbols typical of the brand are often integrated into the image.

Recruitment Portraits
These portraits are used to address potential new employees and present the corporate culture. They can contain a mixture of corporate and lifestyle elements.
Event Portraits
Event portraits are typically taken while you are giving a presentation at a company event, for example (if you are still looking for an event photographer, have a look at Event Photographer). However, they can just as easily be staged during a photo shoot. The only challenge here is to make the photos look ‘real’. It often helps if a colleague acts as an audience and you have someone you can look in the eye.

Creative Business Portraits
The classic business portrait often fits, but not always. Sometimes an artistically designed portrait is desired that incorporates creative elements and unusual backgrounds or poses. These types of business portraits are particularly popular in creative industries.
